Raoul M. de Longpré(1859 – 1911)

Famed floral painter, Raoul Maucherat de Longpré was born in Lyon, France in 1859 to a family of artists. Raoul and his brother, Paul, began their art studies at a young age and by 12, Raoul was painting flowers on fans for a firm in Paris to earn money. In 1877, de Longpré’s artworks debuted at the Paris Salon. Although he probably never traveled to the United States, de Longpre’s paintings circulated widely there. His paintings can be found in the collection of the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C.
